An abandoned section of cell blocks at Nova Prospekt

Description

Localized on the other side of the Coast, the Combine used to run one among other abandoned sections of the block cells as an area to detain citizens who were determined to be a threat to the Combine action. Later on, these cell blocks were left behind, including countless prisoners and citizens who tried to escape by their own through vents, old offices, maintenance facilities and sewers.

You'll find yourself stuck in one of those old cells on another side of sector A5 at Nova Prospekt. Be sure to acquire any kind of weaponry and supplies during your escape route, because you're not alone on this mission. Many unauthorized and unidentified creatures are wandering around the place. Watch your corners and try not to make any huge noises, you might attract those strange things to hunt you down. Or even worse: the Combine itself.

Notes

I challenged myself to develop a map within a week with many details and puzzles as I could. Expect few references from Nova Prospekt cells and hallways designs, including puzzles and Combine squads.
This is my first HL2 map where I dedicated my time and work to create the best quality project since I was never experienced with AI/scripting for SP maps. My previous HL2 maps were from 2010, I'm glad of what I've learned after those years.

    Excelent job!
    The ambience is fantastic feels a lot like original! Looks great, full of detail and believable
    The only think a had problems with is start of the level, I mean those doors must be opened by holding dawn E. Begining took me abaut 20 minuts of gameplay!
    The rest was perfect and combine combat was done right gameplay felt more like survival (especially on hard difficulty)

    Excellent work, the combats are difficult but not impossible, very intelligent puzzles, and an incredible design, the only complaint I have comes from the first door, it is TOO implicit.

    The atmosphere feels the same as the original Nova Prospekt, which is a big plus. The combat sequences could use some improvement, but they are generally ok. The grenade puzzles are nice. Not too easy, not too hard. The gates opening manually at the beginning aren't explained well, which is a bit confusing.

    I played your map and it was pretty good !!

    • AI and fight sequences were nice, specially for "a first time".
    • The Nova Prospekt feeling is everywhere. You did a good job on the visuals : clear blue lightning, dirty walls, rounded ceiling, bars gates...
    • Sound ambiance is also good as it's an abandoned place.
    • Also, it was maybe a little too short. But for a "1 week map", it's really nice.

    However, there are some little things that kind of bother me (not a lot, but I think it could be better)...

    • The 2 prison doors of the beginning are a bit weird to open. I mean, I feel it's a bit out of place to press use on a prison door. For the first one (your prison door), I suggest to open it automatically after some time or something like this. For the second one (zombie sequence), I think a valve would be more appropriated. I would not say I was blocked, but I had to search a bit before figuring out what I had to do...
    • The staircase seems a bit empty and less detailed compared to the rest of the map. Maybe placing more props, choosing other textures or curving walls could make that staircase less "basic". It's not that it's a bad staircase, but I feel it could look even better.
    • The underwater sequence is a good idea, maybe too short, but it seems a bit weird without light. I don't know if it's the water or the absence of light, but there is something wrong. I think adding a few lights of low brightness (red or green for exemple) could make it look better. But it's maybe just me...
    • Also, there is some little weird reflections with the water textures. I don't really know how to fix it, maybe making I big water brush, but well, I don't know...
    • The last thing is just a little detail, but it looks like you forgot to remove a kind of noclip brush in every cell at the bottom, resulting a visual glitch. I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it's really easy to fix :

    Overall it's a nice and solid map, perhaps too short, but still well made. Good job !!
