Version 5 [CD: Jack5] (zs_steel_v5)
  • Many more playerclips added to prevent getting stuck.
  • Slope at Zone D now reaches the full height of the walkspace.
  • Barrel in RED spawn removed and new playerclip introduced to discourage going on rafters.
  • Zone C nerfed with the addition of a boost ramp as well as an increase in door height.
  • Buildings cannot be placed in thin air while the underwater secret is active anymore.
  • Other minor changes.

Version 4 [CD: Jack5] (zs_steel_v4)
  • Bridge facing towards Zone E defensible spot deleted.
  • Engineer sightline at Zone E defensible spot decreased.
  • Sloped ground at Zone C no longer slows down players.
  • New secret "Dire Dire Docks": activation is a secret, activate to navigate the inside of Steel with underwater effects.
  • Major clipping, texturing and displacement overhaul to support new secret.
  • Several non-solid models either removed or made solid to support new secret.
  • It is no longer possible to build on the very edge of the walkable platform in the Zone A spot.
  • Several prop lighting fixes.
  • Roofbeams at zone B blocked.
  • Many other minor changes.

cp_steel has long been a favourite of the Zombie Survival community at Rushy Servers, but now it is being revamped beyond expectations with zs_steel_v5, the perfect amalgamation of balancing and new gameplay elements! This Medic VS Engineer optimisation is the result of me and lrh3370 working together, lrh3370 initially starting the project.
To play this map by yourself, open the map in TF2, pick a class and type "tf_bot_add" then "sv_gravity 400" if you want to be able to double jump (without quotations). To play this map with others, visit Rushy Servers at rushyservers.com.

The sections below document the changes made in Version 1 and 2 of Zombie Survival Steel. For future changes, please refer to the updates log of this post. As usual, feedback is greatly appreciated (especially video feedback), and will help improve broken/unfair map mechanics.

Version 2 (Creative Director: Jack5)

  • Custom textures added, contained within map file
  • Unnecessary and CP-specific entities removed
  • Added system where engineer and medic spawn exits are randomised, both teams are alerted to the choices made by the map through overlays at their spawn
  • Added respawn room visualisers to support randomiser
  • Fixed several lighting issues
  • Fixed several collision issues
  • Removed debris at zone B control point
  • Cleaned up gun dealer area in zone B and fixed leaks
  • Added functioning Tiny Desk Dispenser (TM) to gun dealer
  • Polished several primitive structures
  • Certain quick passageways to zone E have been sealed off to prevent engineers neglecting the randomiser
  • High spot at E nerfed with extra entrance
  • A passageway between zone E and D has been sealed off to highlight a more defensible area
  • Balcony close to the death pit removed
  • Zone C/D/E spawnroom cleaned up and nerfed

Version 1 (Creative Director: lrh3370)

  • All bridges at E are permanently open
  • Nighttime skybox
  • Spot at E is now double the width
  • Truck at B is now crashed allowing a new area to be accessed
  • Gun dealer and Tiny Desk Engineer (TM) in new area outside
  • Spot at B now is accessible from two sides
  • Spot at A is now double the width
  • Balcony close to the death pit is now more defensible
