i think it looks pretty good for a 1st map please let me know if any textures dont load

    Well this isnt working now ive messed it up horribly trying to put this freakin 3d skybox in soooo yeah it wont compile anymore sooo its basicly fucked this is all ur getting from this

    Thanks for the info guys the water isnt water its ice i tryed thousands of times to get the water to work but it looked like it wasnt there or u could see straight thru the skybox... so i put ice in it. i was trying on a map like this before but it got messed up soo that was 2 months of work down the drain.... i made this map in 4 and a half hours no lie..... im working on the skybox but it acually messed it up so i cant even compile it any more... soo im pretty mad but i will figure it out i had it so that there were more boats in the 3d skybox.... ive only been mapping for 2 months and i have many other smaller maps and one humungus one that is a gigantic bedroom..... i need to work on the textures but i was pretty excited how it turned out so i uploaded the map early to give a little taste of my abilities cause my friends were like dude just give up your maps are terrible but they really arent... soo thanks for the feedback OH! and the comment about the docks and checking out google images... im a deckhand on a ferrie and i drive the boats most of the time cause the captains like to be lazy and i love to drive the boat... i know what docks look like... lol but yeah thanks!

    Learn how to create a 3d skybox.
    Keep at it, ive seen many first maps and this is not bad at all.

    Meh, I guess it's not all that bad for a first.

    Water textures need to actually look like water. There are plenty of good default textures sdk comes with. Just search water in the filter and try them all out, even if that means compiling over again. No offense but at the moment, this map is an eyesore. The water looks sorta like blue sand.

    Need better lighting than that. Add a light_environment. If you did add one than you're having a problem that I used to have. You add the light_environment but it just makes the map look dark and ugly, well its because your pitch is most likely set to a positive number instead of a negative number. For example, you want the pitch to be 90 so you have it at 90 but it needs to be -90 to actually work. If you didn't add one you really should unless you want it to be a dark map.

    Brush work is decent. Dock looks pretty unrealistic. Take a look at some pics on google of shipping docks or other maps and get some ideas. Right now it looks very plain and blocky. You should add some actually props on the map instead of only brushes. Boat could be a lot better. Can't really give an advice seeing as I've never mapped a boat however I think with some improvements in technique in the future, you'll be a very good mapper.

    Textures for other things such as the boat and dock don't really match what they are going for. Try using custom textures instead of defaults and it could really amp up the looks. I feel very uncomfortable looking at the textures lol.

    Like Shark said, it MUST have a 3d skybox. Whenever you want a continuous feel to a map 3d skyboxes are the answer. But there is something that you have to do if you want the textures to line up. It has to do with scaling. If you need advice or help just pm me.

    All and all it is a decent start. I wanna keep seeing maps from you. Good work.

    Indeed there are, to add to your points you could have mixed the textures around a bit and didn't stretch them so much , that makes it look a bit ... whats the work ... dull to play in
