When you are looking for custom stuff to download such as skins and maps one of the first things that tell you something about a submission is the rating, and since there are many trolls and bad karma people here it can be misleading most of the time. I see all the time maps that are trashed at because someone does not know how to make it work. If rating system is completely removed this site will be for sure better, new modders won´t loss their incentive and people who name themselves "experts" won´t annoy.
Absolutely not! It might not be perfect, although I believe with the double rating system it's even more up-to-point than it ever was. Just imagine removing the rating system, then you would stumble across troll submissions even more than you already care to admit.
tom, I'd say that if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. Just because the whole Internet is being consumed by minimalism/post-modernism and is dumbing down doesn't mean that this site has to go that way. I believe that the current rating system is a fully functional one in terms of practicality. If you were to take that away, what would become of the site? Constructive criticism would be gone and would instead get replaced by absolutist love it/hate it reactions. I honestly believe that such models are the ultimate killers of what we call feedback.
The ratings system is present so that people can provide feedback and a proper rating to go with it. If you feel that someone's feedback and/or rating is invalid for the submission in question, feel free to submit a support ticket. Removing the ratings system as a whole isn't going to happen, and it wouldn't make anything better by doing so.
