In their quest to sloppily remove various moves from the new games, the Sword and Shield team forgot to do one thing: Actually remove the moves from the game. Instead they simply ticked a box to make them unusable in battle and changed all of the descriptions, telling players that their best option is to simply delete the move.
While I haven't yet been able to "untick" the proverbial box stopping these moves' functionality (Hex editing is not my forte) I have been able to at least restore their descriptions. Hopefully this is the first step toward getting the moves themselves working again!
The funny thing is that the abilities exclusively tied to certain Pokémon are still coded in and functional even if the Pokémon with the ability in question isn't present.
I used PKHeX to get my old Pokémon back into the game and I had a Shiny Talonflame that had Gale Wings. Because of its missing files in the code, it used a set of dummy stats and ultimately by the miracle of it loading the ability, it still went first when I had it use Tailwind in a Raid when its speed was far too low to conceivably go first.
I guess the big thing to do now is add the Pokémon Models, learnsets, animations etc. because the bulk of the code is clearly still there.
christ i didnt think they "removed" moves too. now the meta game will be even more confusing for those who care that much about it, unless they plan to fix this when Pokemon Home is out, cuz im more than sure there would be quite a few moves a pokemon would bring with them that just dont work because reasons. EDIT: i just realized they left in Flatter, which is one of the more pointless moves to keep in. lol
