Sega Saturn Style Colors

A Mod for Sonic R

Updates

v1.01 1y
  • BugFix Removed assert dialog used during mod debugging.
NOTE: If you used the Sonic R Updater, you already have this mod!

This mod fixes an oversight in the PC version of Sonic R that causes vertex colors to not be displayed properly. This makes the game look more lively and colorful than it did before. Additionally it makes Radiant Emerald translucent like it's Saturn counterpart.

So while reading the thread on Retro, I saw that you got burned out on Sonic R for a while, but you're getting somewhat back into it. While I know you said you weren't likely to do anything major just yet, what are the chances of porting the Slope Fix to the 2004 version?

On top of some blurry textures i think that some of the stray pixels that cheatfreak's mod fixes are undone.

You know, having only known the PC and the Gems Collection version of this game (which I heard is just the PC port basically), this is pretty neat to see. I never knew this was how it meant to look, but it looks much more vivid seeing it now.  Great stuff!

Notes
See https://invisibleup.neocities.org/articles/24 for all the nitty-gritty.

Known bugs:
  • MP controller select, MP mode select, and file save/load use bilinear texture filtering for some reason. This looks ugly.
  • Shiny objects (the title screen, mostly) are rendered too bright.
  • It would be nice to have the water tinted blue like the Saturn version.
