It's finally here! Expect more tracks to be added over time.
Features: 17 Custom Tracks, 12 Custom Grand Prix Icons, Text Edits, Boot Screen, Music for Tracks, meta files if you wish to inject, menu screens, MarioKart8 menu file edit. There is a discord server for arranging lobbies and development here: https://invite.gg/ctgpu
Version I downloaded (11/21/2018 - updated 1 mo ago according to gamebanana)
Below are the hard freezes I've encountered.
Hard Crashes/Freezes : 1. Let the title screen fade away from inaction. and it freezes while loading the "demo" mode. 2. Dino Dino Jungle - The byamls are messed up in some way which causes hard freeze on track load (at least in vs mode), replaced with the originals from the copy I have and it worked.
Anyway, thanks for the effort! I'm really looking forward to more refinement, courses, and hopefully one day our own servers (like we have for mkwii)!
I downloaded this mod by replacing files in my mario kart 8 folders but I wasn't quite what I expected so I wanted to reverse my actions. I wanted the 16 original maps and characters back, I reinstalled the whole game, dlc and update but when I tried playing the first 4 grand prixs (the ones that were changed by this mod) are now really messed up, the tracks don't appear and I can't race on them. Is there a way I can properly reverse the changes this mod has made? I would really appreciate it if somebody here could help me. Thanks, Looseo :)
I definitely think this mod has major potential, however, I do think this mod needs a lot to work on (obviously because it's currently in alpha). As you mentioned in your description, I would like to see more tracks being added. Maybe some new tracks. Also, Canyon run did have a different custom theme in ctgp-r so hopefully that the new theme could be changed. Other than that, this mod seems to be going well. Keep up the good work!
I tested Charizard and Charmender this morning. Obviously Charizard is the most complete between the two, I think there are 3 things left to improve in its model: - arms (actually one is fine) - eyes - tail
When these 3 things are done you will have a safe for work Charizard.
That being said, congratulations on the overall concept and progress so far!
There is a lot of potential here, but tagging it as an alpha release is appropriate.
The majority of the tracks don't have item boxes/coins, the AI paths on 2 or 3 are questionable (always opting to drive through grass, into trees), there's jumps that you can't do tricks off of, and (as many have said on the main page and on Youtube) that Yoshi track is too small. I tried it out on 150cc and it was rough; 200cc would be a nightmare.
On racers; Charmander and Charizard are cool to have but they need work.
I don't know if this was glitchy just for me, but as far as the initial release on 1-12-18, the GUI for the tracks (minus Luigi's Mansion) are all glitched and scrambled.
I think the real "gems" here are the inclusion of Luigi's Mansion, Mario Circuit (moreso after the AI gets fixed), and DK Summit. Bowser's Castle is also quite good but still needs some texture help, and sometimes the AI gets stuck falling into lava repetitively.
Anyway! I'm eager to see where it goes from here. I hope this feedback helps all involved.
