Average mission pack, poorly designed but better than some others I've played. I've completed everything on easy mode for the first medal:
This was fun. the objectives were clear and the terrorists never even managed to get to the bomb site.
The map is pretty, but a little bit too dark. It's good looks are hiding in the shadows (disappointing):
I've edited this screenshot by making the map brighter, sky darker and added some color saturation. It looks much better now:
This is why lighting is very important. It's a cut map and probably "unfinished", but even so it has many issues, which leads me to my next point. Railings, vines & grates should be made transparent, because currently they're just black. This is what I mean (I've edited the image here too, and any other image of this map):
Some textures are stretched or misaligned too.
The map is also not optimised very well as you can see here:
This is a world brush therefore splits faces and makes ugly seams. It should be a detail entity. Optimisation is needed to make a map look prettier and run better for those with slow computers. Any small objects or map details (as the name implies) should be turned into a func_detail so It won't cut vis or anything it's touching.
I'd rate this 5/10 and say this mission was enjoyable.
Interesting, lots of detail and very pretty but hard to see where you're going at first. Lighting done very well, textures too.
I like the static noise displays but it would be nice if they rotated around the map as well:
This mission sucked because 35hp is not good to play with AI. They will always hit you first regardless of your skill. These fun modes are only fun against real players.
A "matrix" themed map doesn't really fit in with the rest of the missions (you could pass it off as "VR training" back at HQ or something (since this is 2027). In this case you should rename it to "VR training" or "matrix". Individually as a 35hp map I'd rate this 6/10.
I thought this mission pack was set in 2027? This mission was boring and I'd rate this map the worst out of the six. The map is dull and lifeless with repetitive buildings and little detail. There are lighting errors, bad textures and brushwork.
I assume "1943" is a reference to WW2 and if so, DoD has some good examples what such a level should look and feel like. There are star wars banners in this map as well (I assume that's Darth Vader) and the posters look nothing like they would in the 20th century, so which year is it again?
This whole poster column is out of place, colourful in a gloomy map. The concept of a gloomy map is a nice change from most CS maps, however this has been executed in the wrong way. First off, shadows are too dark in contrast with brightness:
This is unrealistic and doesn't look good. Another thing is that to me, blue light doesn't look good if the textures have a lot of red in them. The Outdesk mission had blue light and it fit much better with the greens and yellows of that map. I'm not going to edit this image like I did in the last mission.
Here are some examples of bad textures:
Here the rubble doesn't really look like rubble or very natural in the first place. It's very jagged and the blue pebbles doesn't match with the red/brown of the rest of the map. Was this junk dumped here on the middle of the road randomly or something?
There are no broken down or fallen buildings and no fires showing signs of a war going on here recently. There are broken lamp posts and scorch marks now and then but otherwise everything looks very clean and repetitive which is not what a war zone should look like.
There are ladders leading up to rooftops. A nice touch is that the barbed wire on the left deals damage to you over time if you stand on it!
Pictured above is also lots of unused space. The interiors are also too far too dark. This area will be camped often and is almost black:
There are also some bugs and a lot of bad brushwork, here are a couple of examples:
Lastly, the hostages can be too easily camped and CTs don't have much chance of winning. 2/10
A nice mission and a nice remake of awp_india. I like how the yellow/brown contrasts with the sky.
Nice terrain, good textures and more. The only downside I can find is that the shadows are again too dark, and the sun is shining from the wrong way:
The crates' frame is sticking out from the frame which looks unique.
This surface has a tile footstep sound which is useful to hear if someone is up there:
If awp_india has yet to be remade with some buildings or details in the background, that would be a nice addition to make it stand out from the crowd.
Lastly, an interesting challenge for this would be to kill an enemy with a knife because it's not easy to do so with bots on this map. However I have only played this mission on easy mode so far so I don't know if it already exists on another difficulty. Quick and enjoyable. I'd rate the map 8/10
This is my favourite mission. Bots knew where to go, did the right thing and the challenges fit the map well.
The map itself is very easy to navigate (I picked up very quickly), had great textures, brushwork, great ambient sound, everything polished to the last detail, but it's not quite perfect, i.e. the stairs pictured below are too small. You go up really quickly and going down them is very bumpy and unpleasant:
All of the stairs around the map are built like this which is annoying.
Secondly, the low-poly round edge here looks out of place with the rest of the map. It wouldn't be as bad if texture axes matched (which would also greatly improve the map overall).
Another issue I have with this (a small one). is that the floor here is split, causing an ugly seam:
This is usually caused by the floor of the map being dragged under everything else (bad practice). Also, this railing here could use a proper texture instead of a solid dark green:
Lastly, as some people have been saying, the colors are dull. The map focuses on dark green/beige but some lighter greens, yellows or blues around would make it easier on the eye. More color saturation for everything else also helps.
On a more positive note, there are interesting interiors such as these windows with a dusty/glowing look:
I like this area:
I also like how you are unable to throw equipment past these barriers too:
Very well made, deserves a 9/10. I recommend detail textures for this map in the next update.
Riot in Cell Block 9
This is the final mission in the pack. Starting outside, CT's need to enter a prison and neutralise a riot.
The level looks nice and tidy from the outside but heading further inside it becomes dirtier and more cluttered, like a labyrinth:
Lots of small areas which are annoying to navigate. Even the bots were mostly running around randomly every round.
The outside area here is bright with soft shadows, contrasting with the inside which doesn't seem to be lit at all except for a dirty yellow haze. The interior lighting doesn't really fit a prison theme. Most prisons are well lit and open to prevent prisoners from trying anything.
This ugly yellow haze creates other problems such as the bright sun shining through the skylight. This doesn't look very good:
This texture is sized down greatly and looks ugly, especially at a distance:
I would like this area if not for the lighting. The most irritating part is that light bulbs have a glow effect but the room is dark and dull.
Also, I like this hole blown through the wall.
Everything else is done nicely and well detailed. The mission was average and I'd give the level itself an 8/10.
I hope you release an update soon, maybe a third tour of duty as well.
My first work! I ask you to assess. It's not a big Mission Pack. In which you will play on 6 maps (2 Tour of Duties). The job complexity is the same, except that the number is more. Please assess my work and recommend me something to improve. Good Luck!
