WELCOME TO NEW FRONTIER CRAFTStay a while, stay forever!
We highly recommend you use the installer for setting up New Frontier Craft, which you can find a download for on the How to Install page linked above, or on this page's alternate file sources. Make sure you've got Java installed, and as long as you've launched Beta 1.7.3 at least once from the Minecraft launcher it'll set itself up without issue. From there just set up a new profile and select the newly generated NFC version and enjoy!
If you prefer using the MultiMC launcher, as is highly recommended if you plan to install addons on top of NFC, just install the pre-packaged NFC instance from here and import it into MultiMC following the guide here.
For manual installation, download the manual installation files from either here or the how to install page and proceed to follow the video guide under the relative section of the how to install page.
A Note of Clarification:
Greetings newcomer! I am Roadhog360, joined by my buddy Logan. We're the current maintainers of this mod and the people in charge of development. The original creator of this project, Zowja, developed it up to version 1.8.6_02 before he handed off development of the project to us. The vast majority of content, features, and guiding ideas of NFC were created by him, and to this day we're still trying to keep the project within the lines of his original vision. The following text was written by Zowja to describe his inspiration and the general goals behind this project. It is still relevant to the current project today and general feeling we're working to accomplish.
Greetings newcomer! I am Zowja, the creator of this mod. This mod is unique in the fact that it is not a mod for the modern game, rather it is a mod for the old version Beta 1.7.3. This is not an old mod laying around from 2011, but something that is active and updated today for Beta!
But... why Beta? If you played Old Minecraft, you know the game felt quite a bit different than it does now. Pre-Alpha, Alpha, and Beta had their own little quirks about them, but all generally had the same feel and atmosphere. At some point along the line, the feel of the game suddenly had a large shift that carries over into how the game feels now. This shift is seen by some people, including myself, as happening in update Beta 1.8, the "Adventure Update". Multiple things may have contributed to this shift, the faster pace of the game from sprinting and a higher focus on fighting, and/or the player base becoming a lot bigger, younger, and edgier, and/or the addition of creative mode suddenly unlocking everything in the game to everyone so then survival lost some of its feels, and/or the looks of the game becoming duller and more orange with the new torch lighting and textures with lower contrast, and/or something else I may have not mentioned. The reason why this mod is built upon Beta 1.7.3 is because of the wanting to recapturing some of the old feeling before all that came around. We like to consider it to be the "last good Old Minecraft update." Whether you used to play these versions back in the day or wish to experience a completely new feeling to Minecraft, we heavily encourage you to try out New Frontier Craft.
Now, originally, New Frontier Craft's intention was to really try and harp on the nostalgia chords, with its original slogan being "New Frontier Craft - The answer for your Nostalgia", but I've since discovered that I am a human being and cannot hit everyone's nostalgia for the old times perfectly. We all had something different about the game that we loved back then. What I can do is freshen up the old times with something new, a new vision for the game - a New Frontier - while keeping to the old roots of the game. This has resulted in something I see as beautiful, something more matured than Beta or modern, something that can bring people who enjoy modern versions back to experience old times, something that retains the ability to play on those feel chords again, something I prefer to play over Beta now - which is really quite something, as I really do love Beta. Hopefully this something I've created can be that something for you too
This mod should be considered as more of an overhaul, or even a new path of development for Minecraft, than just a simple mod. Think of something like Tekkit Classic. The Technic packs have always involved such large modification to the game that it feels like a game of it's own. This is, in general terms, what NFC is aiming to do, but having a larger focus on the old times and polish. I did not merely add new things to the game, but I've completely overhauled pieces of the game like ores and materials. This gives the feeling of being new to the game again, and also really matures how the game plays as I really try to refine the gameplay, yet stay within the framework of Beta to keep that atmosphere alive.
As of now, this project is far from complete. I have big ideas for the game and its future, but I've only completed one of four or five massive updates to the game and its mechanics. If you'd like to know more about development, I recommend you scroll back up the page and join the Discord Server!
