A new take on 06 stages in SA2

HELLO HELLO! WELCOME TO THE BIGGEST LEVEL CONVERSION MOD FOR SONIC ADVENTURE 2!

But wait, isn't this just 06 in SA2?
Yes, but actually, no.
P-02 aims to bring some originality into these level ports. Bringing custom assets, models, new paths and new object layouts unleash the potential of 06's stages that were hidden in plain sight!

NOTE: YOU NEED A MID-END PC/LAPTOP TO RUN THIS MOD! LOW-END USERS WILL EXPERIENCE MASSIVE LAG AND FRAMEDROPS!

Just a quick heads-up. Me and Hoppy are aware of every single issue with this initial release of P-02 thanks to Nonami for testing every collision and we’re working on patching it all up so it’s completely playable with as little bugs as possible. This new patch update will be releasing sometime this month. 

Tip: For the mach speed section, make sure to make subtle movements with the left stick to turn. Because of how SA2’s handling works, you’ll go flying to the sides of the stage if you don’t move the left stick subtly. Also, playing with keyboard controls isn’t the best for this mod. If you have a controller, please use it. If you own a PS4 controller (DS4) and wish to play games on your PC with it, download DS4Windows and the program will allow the DS4 to emulate an Xbox 360 controller’s inputs. 

1. So, what does 1.0 include?


> Wave Ocean A and B (mach speed section)
> Complete exploration of WVO part A!
> Live physics-swaps for the mach speed section
> A fixed camera for the stage (yes, "wave" goodbye to the ground camera)
> Custom assets modelled by HoppyBoppyBunny
> All-new paths and object layouts 
> 2P support (have fun racing each other in the mach speed section!)

> New GUI textures

2. Required mods:


No Battle, by MainMemory (so it doesn't crash the game. Battle DLC only works in 800x600 windowed mode with this, no idea why)
HD GUI, by Speeps
Menu Overhaul, by Speeps
No Model Tinting, by Speeps (so the models don't look too dark like they do in all the ports of SA2)
HedgePanel, by Speeps, so you can slide, have randomised homing attack grunts and not lose momentum when sliding
Character Select PLUS, by Justin113D and MainMemory (if you want to play as other characters, and for the next update)
Sonic Adventure P-02 Character Pack 1.0 (below in the downloads section)

3. Anything else I need to know about this mod?


Launching the game greets you with the Sonic 06 demo trailer! Starting Wave Ocean from the Story Select menu greets you with the first cutscene from Sonic's story!

Wave Ocean part A has a massive focus on exploration, whilst part B is all about blasting through the rest of the stage. Take your time to explore everything new in this version of Wave Ocean!

The object layout is specifically designed for P-02's Sonic physics, which is included in the character pack. You can still use other characters in the stage if you want, but it ain't perfect for other characters. If you want to use other character mods with this, you have to load P-02's character pack and then load your desired character mod right at the bottom of the mod manager so you can have P-02's physics with other character mods. You can't beat the stage with stock physics, so you have to download the character pack to be able to beat it.

Also, some parts might seem a bit empty during the mach speed transtion. This is because we've reached the limit of SA2's SET objects, and so placing more objects will mess up the collisions and will cause other objects to disappear.

We aim to update this mod at least every 4th of the month. The aim is to port Kingdom Valley and Tropical Jungle for the next 2 updates. After that, we'll be taking a break and when we're ready to get back to working on P-02, we'll hit you up with an update.

4. Sonic Adventure P-02 Character Pack 1.0


For the Character Pack, only Sonic and Silver are available as of now. I didn't have enough time to port everyone else's models, so I'll be adding at least 1 character with their 06 animations for every update. 
Sonic has his complete set of 06 animations, recreated by me, and Silver has his standing, walking and running animations done so far. Silver's animations will be completed later down the line.
Silver also replaces Metal Sonic. The pack also includes new physics that mimics P-06's physics but slightly altered so it works well with the level design.
Eye reflections also work as they should too! This means that we now have false specular lighting effects for the eyes so they don’t look empty and weird. 

With all that said, enjoy the best port of Wave Ocean!

    From the pictures I can tell that a lot of work has been put into this. For some reason though I can't play it! :(

    Whenever I try to load the game with the mods selected it doesn't get past a loading screen and I can't even close out of the game unless my task manager is on my 2nd monitor. This only happens when the mods are selected so is there anything I can do to guarantee I won't have the game essentially crash like that?

  • I love where this project is going, just one thing. the character pack comes with the weird physics swap. I believe that the physics should be  another, separate file to download. Anyways, other that that i really enjoy the whole 06 ideas in mods for these games, keep up the good work!

    That new path really should be optional. It looks out of place with the rest of the stage and accessing it is really finicky. 6-7 minutes on average is too long to complete a stage and it's made even longer with SADX-tier collision. Also falling from a great height is a little too punishing since it requires a lot of tedious backtracking to get back to that point. I like the idea of alternative paths, but the groundwork isn't solid enough yet to build off of. I understand there's a patch coming out which addresses many complaints and concerns, so I hope some of the things I mentioned receive attention and tweaking. This has potential!

    Just played through this, it was okay. There was one sticking point on Sonic's physics. If I am to be blunt Sonic's jumping suuucks. It feels overly floaty, I almost thought I had a moonjump code on. It's not at all fun for me. Other than that this mod is great, but good god the jump physics.

  • Ok so I tried to play this but I had a problem. When I’d start the stage, the music wouldn’t play and after I went through the first loop, the camera went under the stage and was stuck. I have no idea what the issue is so can you help me figure this out.
