~ Definitive Character Visual Overhaul ~

This mod patches every character model in Sonic Heroes in an effort to provide definitive versions of each. 
Every member of every team (even Cheese), plus Eggman and Metal Sonic, have all received fixes to their models and textures, including: 

- High quality versions of character textures, many of which were either remade entirely or modified from the best versions of any given texture

- Colors and skin tones that are more accurate to official artwork

- Restored and added reflective ENV maps for gold and silver things such as Vector's chains and headphones, Big's belt buckle, Shadow's inhibitor rings, Knuckles's shoe Legos, Amy's bracelets, etc.

- Gloss removed in favor of a subtle rim-lit spheremap (as opposed to just removing the spheremaps entirely)

- Model error fixes such as Cream's eyeliner cones extending out of the back of her head, Cheese's left eye being perpetually tilted forward, everything wrong with Omega, Eggman's textures being messed up in certain cutscenes, etc.

- Complete visual consistency between gameplay models, menu models, and cutscene models (All non-FMV cutscenes have been updated to match the fixes made to the gameplay models)

Here's a few examples of the updates made to textures, featuring a highlight from each team (Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, and Espio, respectively):



If it wasn't clear already, the pixelated, 16-color versions of these textures are from the base game, while the high quality versions are the ones created for this mod.



Below, I'll try to list every update made to every character model, along with any general fixes and restorations. Hopefully I don't miss anything; this mod has been in the works for a few months and I'm writing this from memory.

Sonic
- Colors are slightly less saturated
- Skin Tone changed to match closer to official artworks
- HD Texture pulled from PS2 version in-game model, eye completely remade
- Gold ENV added to shoe buckles (As they appear in FMVs)
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Super Sonic
- Relevant altered colors, skin tone, and added ENVs match normal Sonic's
- HD Texture pulled from normal Sonic's PS2 version in-game model, eye completely remade
 >> (Note: Super Sonic uses super pixelated eye and shoe textures in all versions of the game, normally, so Sonic's high quality shoe texture was used as a base, as they're effectively identical)
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Tails
- Colors are slightly less saturated
- Texture pulled from PC version 'advertise' model and edited to remove artifacting, eye completely remade
 >> (Note: If a texture is not noted to have originally been "HD," it's because the character did not have an unusually high-quality texture in the PS2 version of the game as some others did)
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Knuckles
- Colors are slightly less saturated
- Skin Tone changed to match closer to official artworks
- Texture pulled from PC version 'advertise' model and edited to remove artifacting, eye completely remade
- Silver ENV added to shoe Legos (As they appear in FMVs)
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Shadow
- Fur Color changed to match closer to official artworks, using his PC 'advertise' model's palette as a base
- Skin Tone changed to match closer to official artworks
- Texture pulled from PC version 'advertise' model and edited to remove artifacting, eye completely remade
- Fur Stripe pattern pulled from Shadow The Hedgehog (game) and edited to match colors used in Heroes
- Gold ENV restored on inhibitor rings
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Rouge
- Outfit and Eyeshadow colors and ENV maps completely changed to match official artworks
- Skin Tone changed to match closer to official artworks
- Eyelashes and Nose color changed to be a little darker
- Texture pulled from PC version 'advertise' model and edited to remove artifacting, eye completely remade
- Light on the heel of her boot texture changed from pink to red (As it appears in FMVs)
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Omega — Based on work done by Sonikku A
- Colors completely reworked to match official artworks
- Textures pulled from PC version 'advertise' model, heavily edited for consistency and accuracy
- Missing Decals restored; Higher-Res versions provided by Raphael Drew Boltman
- Arm texture remade to match high-res decals
- Broken Normal Map on one of his hip flaps fixed
- Stomach Lights restored, visible through transparent glass pane
- Silver ENV on hands changed to be less dull

Amy
- Pink is slightly less salmon-y
- Skin Tone changed slightly to match closer to official artworks
- HD Texture pulled from PS2 version in-game model, eye cleaned up to remove artifacting
- Gold ENV added to bracelets (As they appear in FMVs)
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Cream
- Colors completely reworked to match official artworks
- HD Texture pulled from PS2 version in-game model, eye completely remade
- Head model completely replaced with the one that appears in cutscenes, as the normal one has inconsistent eyeliner that extends through the back of her head as cones (noticeable in the base game on both the in-game and 'advertise' models)
- Missing Eyelids/Eyelashes restored on 'advertise' model
- Gold ENV added to glove buttons (As they appear in FMVs)
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Cheese
- Fixed Cheese's left eye being constantly tilted forward during gameplay and cutscenes due to a model animation error
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Big
- Color issue fixed and made to match a bit closer official artworks
- HD Texture pulled from PS2 version in-game and 'advertise' models, edited for consistency and accuracy
- Broken normal map on the end of his belt fixed
- Gold ENV restored on belt buckle
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Espio
- Colors changed to match closer to official artworks
- Skin Tone changed slightly to match closer to official artworks
- Texture pulled from PC version 'advertise' model and edited to remove artifacting, eye completely remade
- Shuriken effect texture restored via porting done by Hirai
- Silver ENV restored on cuffs
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Charmy
- Colors changed slightly to match closer to official artworks
- Skin Tone changed slightly to match closer to official artworks
- Texture pulled from PC version 'advertise' model and edited to remove artifacting, eye completely remade
- Silver ENV restored on goggles and helmet
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Vector
- Colors changed slightly to match closer to official artworks
- HD Texture pulled from PS2 version in-game model, eye completely remade
- Silver ENV restored on headphones
- Gold ENV restored on chains and cuff buckles
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Dr. Eggman
- Model errors in various cutscenes all fixed for consistency
- Gold ENV restored on square buttons for both in-game and cutscene models
- Gloss replaced with subtle rim-lit spheremap

Metal Sonic — Based on work done by Sonikku A
- Colors from console versions restored
- ENV maps fixed and made a bit subtler

Extras
- Fixed an issue with Egg Hawk's lighting during the boss fight's intro cutscene in Team Rose's campaign
- Fixed an issue with Team Chaotix's Egg Emperor intro cutscene that caused shadows to be twice as dark in the boss fight thereafter



I really hope you like what I've put together here; this is my first completed and publicly-posted mod.     This is awesome; thank you for this great mod! I have always hated the weird glossy look the models had in this and ShadowTH, and now I can finally say I have done away with it in both ^^ Will be really refreshing for revisiting.

  • So, I absolutely love this mod. Makes the models look great now.

    There's only one issue for me though: I'm using the AI HD Texture pack with Reloaded-II along with your character visual overhaul mod, which looks great all around, but the character selection UI in-game looks quite low resolution, due to the way textures are stored and loaded from the character models.

    So, I have a special request. Could you perhaps take the team character selection slot textures from the AI HD Texture pack project? I know this might be a bit far fetched, but it would be nice if you could do it.
