I posted this in the discord, but I found another bug relating to the stars. If a lightning shield is obtained during super/hyper form with the stars active, they partially corrupt/mess up in tiling, it's noticeable.
This mod was a pain to develop, mostly because ASM sucks.
Through the development of a currently unreleased mod, I decided to port the Proto Hyper Sonic Stars animation from the Sonic 3c 0517 prototype. However, since there's no disassembly of this prototype, I had to make my own (at least for the code that handled the Hyper Sonic Stars anim). To do this, I used Ghidra, a software analyzer developed by the NSA and this extension that allows it to disassemble Sega Genesis ROMs. Then, using the existing Sonic 3 & Knuckles disassembly and BlastEm to find the offset of the Hyper Sonic Star code and help with understanding the overall code flow of the game, I used Ghidra to disassemble the code that handled the Hyper Sonic Stars. Using this guide to help with understanding 68K assembly code, I then ported the logic for the Hyper Sonic Stars to Lemon script, including the emulation of ASM instructions not readily available in Lemon. After a bunch of debugging, double-checking the ASM, and trying (somewhat) random things, I finished the mod.
