Debug Mode+

A Mod for Sonic 3 A.I.R

Updates

v2.0 13d
  • Amendment Config file moved into the in-game mod settings (config support's still available for Oxygen)
  • Addition Monitors in placement mode now use modded monitor sprites
  • Addition Monitors in placement mode now respect the monitor style set in AIR's settings
  • Addition Monitors in placement mode now show the icon of the monitor in addition to the bottom-right corner of the screen
  • Addition Monitors in placement mode now appear broken when the broken monitor (0x0a) is selected
  • Improvement Support for Script-based HUD mods has been greatly expanded, allowing them to work with the Revamped Debug Mode HUD.
  • Addition Added an option to always display the Debug Mode HUD (requires the Revamped HUD to be enabled)
  • Addition Added an option to choose which monitor is selected by default
  • BugFix Broken Monitors now break on placement, preventing them from having collision
  • Adjustment Placement of the Revamped Debug HUD has been adjusted to match the vanilla HUD
  • Refactor Many function and variable names have been refactored to improve code readability/quality
  • Refactor Mod Folder name changed to "Debug Mode Plus"
Due to the mod's folder name being changed, you may have to manually delete the older version of the mod. In addition, your config settings will need to be reconfigured for the new version of the mod, which can be done through the in-game settings menu.

(In-game Mod Manager icon support will come eventually)

Upgraded Debug Mode is Finally Here!

Debug Mode+!

Upgrade your Debug Mode experience with this mod! Debug Mode+ adds support for choosing which monitor you place, as well as a revamped HUD that respects modded HUDs. It also includes an alternate control scheme that can be enabled in the settings.

Controls:

Press the Y button ('W' key) to move forward through the monitor list. Hold Y and press the B button (D key, or Genesis C button) to go backward through the list.

For alternate controls, hold the X button ('A' key or Genesis 'A' button) and press Left or Right to scroll through the objects list. Hold X and press Up or Down to scroll through the monitor list.

OPTIONS, toggleable in the in-game settings menu:

  • Revamped control scheme. Uses the X button (Genesis A button) and the d-pad to select objects
  • Revamped HUD. Uses the assets from HUD mods (and some custom assets for the debug numbers, which can be modified via sprite mods). Can be disabled to use the vanilla or script-modded HUD (with the addition of the monitor selector).
  • Always show (custom) Debug HUD. When the custom debug mode HUD is enabled, this option will have it show at all times, much like it did on the Genesis (debug mode must be enabled)
The config is still available for use with the Oxygen Engine for those developing script mods.

Compatibility:

The mod should be 100% compatible with any HUD mods that aren't script-based. V2.0 also adds support for script-based HUD mods without disabling the revamped HUD, though this may not work with all mods. This mod must be given higher priority than script-based HUD mods in order for them to function properly.

It should also be compatible with any mod that adds custom monitors (however this isn't guaranteed).

HUD mods can also change the sprites used for the debug icons through sprite modding. To do this, copy the sprites' .json and modify the hud_debug_smalldigits.png as needed. Include this in your HUD mod the same way you would any other sprite mod.

Announcement

I'm in the process of updating Separate Super/Hyper Themes to the latest version of AIR and I'd like to know about some songs that would be good for Super/Hyper Tails/Knux! If you've got any ideas, comment 'em on the mod's page or DM me on GameBanana or Discord. Also, Zone Clear Times! - DaKingofCheckerz

Development Info

Notes
Script was made using Geany under Linux Mint with Wine installed. Image assets were compiled using GIMP. Images were sourced from the Sonic 3 & Knuckles disassembly (using Flex 2) and S3AIR's mod templates folder.

The mod comes mostly out of wanting a better control scheme for debug mode, and the requests for a debug mode that supports HUD mods. Because the current version already has these features implemented, it's likely that no new major versions of the mod will release in the foreseeable future.
