Don't mind me, but you've made it way too dark. It appears completely out of place in certain areas.
Also, the gradient/fading effect of the sprite doesn't looks very well done either. It appears like a big black splat in between of the character's feet. The fading effect starts out way too late, making it appear way too sharp.
Take a look the retail shadows. They are there, however made cleanly and with less opacity, making them less obvious.
Now the shadows generated by the Hammer. See how subtle they are? Most of the maps in-game are well lit, which makes the shadow really really obvious and makes it stand out rather sharply.
Turn down the opacity a bit, and fade out the edges just in the correct places. It'll make them a little bit more realistic.
