If you want, you can rename the files "muzzleflash*.spr"
from 1 to 4 to have different styles, as seen on the screenshots...

Yea, I know. Valve did not realise that effect as good as possible at that time. In CSS it's better I think. You have only 4 sprites for all weapon types and both views. That's not enough. Here we have to take this as it is and try to make the best of it. For instance it makes no sense to take non-symmetrical Muzzle-shape, because from one side it looks good, from the other it would be mirrored and so on...
