Office building based map for Secret Society contest

Creating this map for the Secret Society mapping competition. I decided to go all out for this one because this is most likely my last CS:S map.

Terrorists have finally discovered the secret Counter Terrorists' headquarters. Hidden in plain sight in world famous Econ Tower. The Terrorists plan to blow up the command center and the server room to forever cripple the Counter Terrorists. Counter Terrorists must stop them at all costs, by any means necessary. The loss of the Econ Tower HQ would wipe out information on Terrorists all around the world and the repercussions would be dire. This is the most important battle for both teams. Choose your side wisely.

7/4/12:

  • Have basic layout completed
  • Currently working on detail on left side of map
  • Bombsite A is the server room
  • Bombsite B is the command center and will be in the top right room
  • Need input on current looks/layout

7/16/12: Was finally able to get into counter strike to try out my map again and took some pics for the update.

  • Redid right side of map
  • More detail added
  • Redid Server Room

7/18/12: Still not content with the layout I remade it and remade it again. I am now happy with how it looks and this will most likely be the final version of the layout. A is in the top left with the servers. B is the wooden room that will be a command center for the CTs.

  • Redid entire layout for A, B, Ct-spawn and right side of map
  • Closed off elevators in T-spawn (they didn't work anyways), the elevators on the left next to the cubicles do work though.
  • Could use input on layout right now
  • Suggestions welcome
  • I know some areas look bland and lighting looks like crap, that's because I just made those. I don't need to be reminded they look bad, I know they do, they're just placeholder for now.

7/21/12: Changed the layout a little bit in just a couple of places and am very satisfied with it now. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all that have commented and helped me. Especially those that have been able to play test for me.

  • More detail
  • Most notably here in this update I've begun work on fully detailing the map, starting with the bombsites
  • Bombsite A(Server Room) is now almost completely done and the area surrounding it should be done shortly
  • Bombsite B(Command Center) is in the works and nearing completion as well. I have yet to work on the surrounding areas for it but already have in mind what I want to do
  • CT spawn also finally revived some much needed lovin' this update

    Map is looking great dude, nice work.

    The blinds in screenshot 3 and 7 look strange. Maybe it's just because you don't have AA on, not sure. They just look odd.

    The custom textures are certainly doing the trick of catching attention and eyes of viewers; good job :)

    I have couple of advice to give and hope you take them into consideration:

    • Screenshot 3: you need to disable shadows on the ferns to avoid having that unnatural looking dark patch underneath them.
    • Screenshots 6,7,8: you need to lower your light entity further down and away from the wall to avoid having those nasty bright light patches on walls/ceiling.
    • Pay attention to optimization especially in offices (you have many details and all of them should be switched to func_detail if you have not already done it, and unless they are props). Areaportals should be also implemented on every door, doorway end... This will insure that your map flows smoothly on most systems.

    Overall, I liked the general ambiance in the map especially the first screenshot. I believe you're on the right track in this contest; keep it up and good luck.

    Looking pretty slick so far, though the second to last screenshot with the boulders could definitively need some ferns and extra vegetation added, perhaps even a tree to break up some of the view in the higher floors.
