Another Day on Mars

NEW SCREENS ONLINE! </b/

Another Day on Mars</b/ This will be the first part of my project MARS 2136 , a mappack consisting of several chapters,

What it is about</b/ My great-grandparents used to tell me that scientists have found water on the Mars back in the early 21st century over and over again. Over decades humanity developed ways to settle there due to overgrowing and lack of resources. I was the right age to see all the stuff happening .Soon they said that they hoped to deposit their uranium under the surface of one of the Mars's deserts because plans to deposit the nuclear waste on Saturn or Venus were cancled. The mission is lead by the OASES (Organisation of Aeronautics and Space Exploration). The decision of putting it under the Mar's surface was made when the OASES ran out of money and they barely could finance the project. They stated in the largest press conference ever done:

" Our decision to deposit the atomic waste on Mars was made thinking of humanity's safety. If we'd put them somerwhere else like Satur, Venus or Jupiter we would not be able to finance the project itself - that would mean the end of all the plans concerning Mars. If we put it under one of the deserts on Mars where it is impossible to live we will safe billions of dollars which we will spend in improving the conditions of life. None of the barrels will ever see daylight again - and no human being will ever be in danger because of the atomic waste!"

I think Dr.Lennard Ford said that. He made the whole thing rolling, as we would say

4 months later,in the 2070s, the mission started and the first colonists settled down on Mars, including me. Soon 100 workers followed and they began to burry the nuclear waste.OASES demanded us to put them just 60 feet under the surface. They wanted to sage time and money...their greed just made things worse when it happened. But until 2120 this all worked out fine but then the surface of the Mars started to deform. Earthquakes constantly changed the terrain, villages were destroyed and the storages came back to daylight, leaving junkyards full of atomic waste .The terraforming caused the rare colonies to collapse and the civilization there which have just finished testing the new protective masks needed to survive splitted up into two fractions. The communication to earth was canceled and they had to fight for the food and the oxygen needed for the protection masks remaining on the mars began. Because there was no electric energy it was not possible to use modern weapons. They had to use weapons which were sent with the first uncrewd flight in 2030.And guess what: I am right in the middle of this god damn mess.

Feedback and other stuff</b/ As said before, this will be part One</b/ of 3 or 4. Number one will be like throwing the player into the new environment, the Mars raped by humanity : junkyards, uranium trash and abandoned buildings. The village will be destroyed - due to the terraforming - dont be surprised walking through a 65° building! Sadly, this project is strongly limited because of the DUNIA-Editor but I wont change to Cryengine because there is not a single mappack for Far Cry 2 which provides a continously series of maps with a shallow background.I'll try my best to provide an extraordinary mappack giving at least the slightest feel of "hey im not on fc2!" . It may fail due to "pop-up"graphics (object visibillity is pretty low in far cry 2) and gameplay issues (like balancing). Feel free to edit and use the stuff when its released. And if there are any critical typos in my text, correct them! Im still in school and Im learning english but it will never be nearly as good as my german :).

Give me your ideas concerning story, gameplay and design!

Edit: I had to deastically decrease the map size of "Another Day on Mars" due to technical limitations, that means there will be one more map in the series!

As long as this is not released, feel free to play my 3 Far Cry 2 maps :) :

Hi there =) I will fix those logical mistakes as soon as i can. It seems like I wasnt up to date with the mars stuff when I thought about that. Yep, I dont even try to deny the fact that its highly inspired by Avatar. I made them when I was thinking about how I can make this look a little bit more exotical, like you see it and you directly know that you cant be on earth. For there are no otpions like a second sun, several moons or something like that I decided to make something floating in the air to show that the physical conditions are different from here.

"What's dioxygen?" In German this thing is called "Sauerstoff". As I did not knew the english word for it, I visited leo.org and it said "dioxygen"

    dioxygen [chem.] >der Sauerstoff

I was pretty convinced with that so I used it. Sauerstoff is the thing we breath. The "O-O" thing. Whats the right word for it?

Looks very nice however I will point out:

    • Against all forecasts? Most scientists agree its quite likely Mars will have water
    • The floating rocks are awesome, bit of Avatar there?
    • Atomic waste would never be sent to Mars, if you can get it into space you can fire it to Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter or into the Sun. Furthermore its likely we'd be using Fusion at this point negating the existence of nuclear waste.

    • What's dioxygen? Water is dihydrogenmonoxide

Anyways thats a story crit but this is more of a map pack and an awesome looking one at that keep it up!
