Welcome to the first edition of The Weekly Banana. Lot's of exciting new things happening this week. We have Tom updating the Banana, Counter-Strike: Source Beta, and the Skin of the Week. Let me first introduce you to The Weekly Banana. The Weekly Banana is FPSB's first newspaper that writes about events occurring all through out the Banana. We have featured threads, skins, maps, sprays, etc. If you think your submission is good enough all you have to do is contact Eagle via message or PM. If you want to be part of the Weekly Banana team once again, contact Eagle.
Banana Update Most recently we have Tom updating FPSB with a whole new look and he has fixed most of the errors. As you may have noticed, the search bar has been fixed and many other types of bugs. I had a chance to ask him a few questions;
Q. What made you want to update the forums with a new look?
A. The new look is mainly driven by the constraints of the new platform; I decided to switch from a row-by-row approach to listing information to a cell-based approach. Which is more flexible and requires less configuration on the back-end. The older listing style also wasted a lot of space inside the columns.
Q. We've seen you patch up some of the bugs. What are some current bugs or updates you're working on?
A. The main bugs I've been patching up are those linked to submission updates and caching. I've been moving all edit forms across to the new platform which is centrally controlled, allowing me to eliminate bugs quickly across the site. Right now I'm moving the post editing to the new platform
Q. Any future plans?
A. Overhaul of points, increased focus on REPs and subscriptions, overhaul of modules and API, more studio features, chatroom and IM between members. Overhaul of CSA, stamps and favoriting too, and also some new security measures.
As you can tell, we have much to look forward to. He says he is still working out the kinks on certain ideas and might bring back the points system you obtain from submissions. If he gets some good ideas for it then it will most likely come back. When asked if he would he responded, "Not sure, I'm going to give it some good thought and design it in a way that it encourages good submissions." So if you have a good idea that will encourage good submissions and keep the points system be sure to tell him.

Counter-Strike: Source Beta As you may have read before, valve has released a beta on the updated Counter-Strike: Source. If you didn't know about it, Valve has recently put out a limited time offer of Counter-Strike:Source Beta. It allows new achievements and has been updated with other all new features such as:
144 achievements added
New lifetime player stats and summary screens
New match player stats and summary screens
New end of round display with MVP and interesting fact about a player
Updated scoreboard with new icons, visual style, MVP stars, and avatar pictures
New cinematic death camera
New domination and revenge system
Added avatar icons to voice chat, scoreboard, and end of round display
Incorporated many source engine updates
Amen, one of our moderators here on the banana, has submitted a news article on the update and how he feels about it. He says in the article "I personally enjoy everything this update is going to bring, from the smallest change they made, up to the biggest." Some of the other members, like fuyuki350, don't appreciate the update. He says in one of his posts "Honestly we don't need any of these stupid faggy achievements, death-cam crap." It's a split view on the update but from an outsider's prospective I think it's a positive movement toward CS:S that will help bring more people to it.
Skin of the Week Skin of the Week goes to the Tactical M4 RIS (3 anims set) . Due to it's high quality modeling, skinning, animations, and sounds this was an obvious choice for Skin of the Week. I checked out the video of it and the quality is spectacular. Everything goes together perfectly and all three animations are just as good as the others. There were a few minor issues with 2 polygons that weren't wielded but that has been fixed and so has Lightswitch's animations. When asked what MunZz, a fpsb member, thought of this he replied, "This skin is very realistic, it looks like something you would see on Call of Duty. Amazing animations on this skin looks like how a real gun would reload. It is very detailed and i can tell alot of work went into this." The skin deserves the grade it was given. A 10/10. Great job to all the people that made it. Here's the video of all the animations:
That's the end of The Weekly Banana. If you have any suggestions or wish to become part of the team please contact Eagle . If you're applying be sure to state reasons why you deserve to be part of The Weekly Banana team and your qualifications. Thanks, and keep reading!
