This tutorial is about importing sprays into l4d

Before starting this tutorial, I will expect that you have some basic knowledge of Photoshop. Mostly the size of the image and saving it to .bmp (which is the best file format as it is not compressed, however larger in size) If you have never added a custom spray into any source game (Counter-strike Source, l4d etc) then after this guide, you will know. Lets start off by making a spray. This can be done by using Adobe Photoshop (Which I will be using) Keep your image small, if its too big l4d may ruin your picture. Ive made mine 500x500 pixels Okay, so here is my finished tag (Refer to picture 1) Save it somewhere in which you will remember, I placed mine in the desktop. Now load up Left 4 Dead Go into options -> Multiplayer and click on "import spray" (refer to picture 2) look for the image which you saved it. (refer to picture 3) Once you have clicked on it, you should see it displayed. Now go load up any mode and press the magical "T", now you can show whos the daddy while playing online! (refer to picture 4)

Posted by ThatGuy77 I tried this - my filesize is 256x256 and its a jpg, but when i import it, it says the image is corrupt - any thoughts?
same here. is there any way to fix this? or could somebody import a spray for me?
i have that jpeg issue too - go targa all the way. save your files in photoshop as TGA, 32 bits per pixel, 256x256. works like a charm

Clarity: Pretty clear, poor spelling an punctuation in some areas Simplicity: Perfectly simple Usefulness: Works some of the time, but neglects to mention how to add a vmt, which is sometimes necessary to import a spray.

I think its enough to have 4 or less tutorials for making sprays (+transparensy) or AllINone for source engine(S), because they are so similiar! :P

Although I know this is more or less a very simple tutorial. Not everyone has a source engine game, so users who only has l4d will check the l4d boards as opposed to any other game, due to the irrelevance.

And not so hard to figure out anyway. I want to see that one first human beeing on the world, who did not figured out how to import custom sprays yet. Seriously. That is not worth a tutorial, if you ask me.
There are other ways to add sprays too you know that people don't know of. Such as saving the image as a .VTF and putting it into the VGUI folder in the games directory. In Left 4 Dead's case it would be, materials > VGUI > Logos. I can name a few people off the bat who don't know how to do that, although the reason this tutorial fails is because it covers one part of the options menu in the game. If you really want to make this tutorial cover something useful, then it should cover every possible way to import a spray, but as I said, this is a portion of tutorials that have been submitted for almost every Source game like CSS or TF2. So in conclusion, this tutorial is rather spam.

If you don't know how to do this, you're retarded. I don't see the point of a tutorial for such an easy thing.

You're giving us some false information here. Picture maximum size in-game is 256 X 256, it will be automatically resized to that if you upload anything bigger, therefore it will lose a lot of quality and it may look stretchy if it has different dimensions. So do not make your images 500 X 500, make everything 256 X 256, if its bigger or smaller, it will still be automatically resized to that. The format, .bmp is a bad idea. .Bmp does not utilize transparency, so if your spray is transparent, it will end up with an ugly white background, therefore, you need to save the image as a .VTF (if you have the VTF Photoshop Plugin) or my favorite format, .TGA. It will make the spray transparent in-game. Refer to my tutorial for How to make transparent sprays. Fix those 2 things I said and this tutorial will be alright. The rest is correct, but then again this has been submitted many times in different sections.
