SteamPipe Skins and HUDs Installation

In this tutorial you'll be learning all about installing mods on the new, faster "engine" SteamPipe for TF2.

Yeah. TF2 is now much faster, but... what about all my skins?
Don't worry. TF2 is faster and now you can install skins much easier.
How?

  • First open your Steam folder.
  • Then go to SteamApps, common, team fortress 2, tf. As you can see in this folder there's all the game files.
  • Now go to the "custom" folder. If you don't have a "custom" folder simply create one!
  • Installation is different than before. Now just create any folder for example "Broesel hud" and put all files (mod files that should be in "tf" folder) in this folder. You can put all mods in this folder or create other folders for other mods - then uninstall will be much easier.
  • Your skin/mod/hud is installed!
If you want to delete mod just delete the folder for the mod. Now you don't have to find mod files and then delete it.

I hope I helped!

I have a problem. I am a beginner at steam and modding. I followed all the steps, and went into tf2 but the mod wasn't in my backpack.

Do you actually own the item that you're trying to replace? If not, then you won't be able to see any changes until you do.
Not as serious as you'd think.

I've got an issue. I followed this guide step by step, and this HUD mod only partially works for me (http://tf2.gamebanana.com/guis/29548).

Here's the tf folder with the file (Shana-Taiga HUD): http://i58.tinypic.com/jaxta9.png In game, this is what my 3D Character HUD appears as: http://i61.tinypic.com/29opc8x.png However, I have noticed that this mod did change the character image of the player list screen: http://i57.tinypic.com/2q3nkw1.png So, does anyone know if I've done something wrong, or where I went wrong?

    Thanks :D

You may be using that extra option for your HUD where your character appears in 3d instead of a "default" class pic.

Sorry for my english once again.

I have followed all of these steps and still SOME mods work and SOME don't. I have yet to understand this new system. Can anyone help?

Depending on what game you're installing mods for (although this tutorial is for TF2, it's pretty much the same for most Valve titles at this point), some mods might be too outdated to function properly at this point. If you're referring to TF2 mods, make sure the submissions in question are actually up to date to work with the newer setup for TF2.
Not as serious as you'd think.
