 About:

This is a series of Contests that will be running for at least several months if not longer, the main part of this contest is to take a real life photograph and replicate it as best as one can for the source engine. Several Winners along with participators take home from 250 points to a grand total of a maximum 5,250 points per person ( or two man team ) in prizes. The use of any program along with Valves Hammer Editor is acceptable but with a few limitations in place, if not sure of something then please ask as I will not list them all off.

You can use hammer with ANY source game you wish, CS:S ~ DOD:S ~ HL2:EP1/2 ~ TF2, just as long as your using Hammer to create your screenshot submissions base content and not all created from PhotoShop/3DS Max etc. The Base content HAS to be made in hammer or used in hammer. Small after touches onto the screenshot are allowed in small forms (i.e. Blur) and shouldn't modify the image too much from original. The use of Colour correction for example cannot be done via PhotoShop but with Hammers own Colour Correction system. You do not have to create a fully complete map, just your re-produced copy of the photo provided to the best of your ability, nothing too difficult right? Custom Textures and models are all allowed as long as they abide by the rules set in the contest below.

Submissions will be posted as screenshots, not compiled/completed map files, just the single area that resides within the location/scene provided in the Contests Photograph. You can use whatever resolution you wish to for your final product, but you MUST thumbnail the image when posting with a link going to the fullsize image itself, you can do that by including width="350" in the image tag and it will resize the height in correct proportion.

Contests will be posted within the week before they start to allow everyone to be informed and start on the same day, the first of each new month, so that most are on a level playing field and no one has an advantage of when they saw/starting working on their own submission. This series of competitions will start off with relatively easy constructions before preceding onto harder/more complex work and detail.

The Course of these mapping Contests will run from the 1st of each new month to the 25th of that same month. Unless otherwise posted at the top of the thread ( Due to special events or long holidays etc ). This is the date you should be submitting your screenshot at the very latest. Any late entries will receive their participation award still, but be ineligible for main prizes as judging will have already begun on the submissions sent on time. If you will be unavailable on the days of submissions a private message send to any of the judges informing them of your completed submission and the link to the screenshot itself will change your status on the competitors list from incomplete to complete ( see bottom of thread for example ), and you will be included in final judging.

*Recommended to add thread to your watchlist for further Updates and Information posted. Along with of course new additions to the competition!

December Contest Judges:

  Point Awards
 Participation Award:
 ■ Submitting Screenshot - 250 points
Awards Info:

You can only win ONE of the larger prizes. A single person cannot win all or most of them because that would be unfair, there are several winners per contest and each have their respective category's that they excelled in more than others. This however doesn't include the participation award that comes with simply taking part in the competition, thats just a gift for competing.

There will be new category's created and others removed on a month by month basis depending on the content for that particular contest, I.E. Best Weather/Water Effect and so on. If you have suggestions for sections than PM/Post here

 Top Prize Awards:
 ■ Best Overall Match - 5000 points
 ■ Most Complex - 2000 points
 ■ Best Lighting Match - 2000 points
 ■ Best Texture Match - 2000 points
 ■ Best Screenshot Effect - 1500 points
* Special Thanks goes out to Botch for providing the means in which to fund these little endeavors

Resolution Wise no, can be any size for the image, And map size/proportions is completly up to you as its only how best the screenshot matchs the original image thats being judged in the end. Objects like a fence can be skyscapers compared to players if you wanted.

Interesting...I'll probably sit this first one out due to school (the quarter ends Dec 4, so I might try), but if it's monthly I'll for sure have to give this a shot.
