Likely due to my system, but not sure

I recently downloaded the Bioshock Demo via Steam and tried to play it, however, it has many display problems, which I think may be due to my system, which I will outline below. But first of all, when I load the game, it starts up fine, but the menu has no cursor. I was still able to painstakingly find the buttons and such, and I went into the display/graphic options to set everything to the lowest (as I know my system can't handle it on high). Changing these settings still did not seem to bring my cursor back, but that was not the biggest problem... When I clicked DEMO and EASY (same results on medium), and it started loading, with the green screen with quotes and pictures. So far so good. Then the opening cut-scene began playing. It looked fine and played through perfectly. Then the plane crashes... Everything goes black, you here screaming, yada yada. But after that it stays black. Once it begins to tell you to use W, S, A, and D to Move, I started looking around and moving. But all around me was a black abyss of fire, smoke, "water" and weird-looking, random-sized black squares. There is nothing around that appears to look like a plane or the ocean or sky or other people (see the screenshot). This is the case it was everytime I tried with many different settings -- High, Medium, Low, Custom, Windowed, High-res, low-res, etc. SCREENSHOT:

I'm almost positive that it must be my GFX card that fails (it's like 4 years old), but it seemed like it would still be able to at least run semi-normally. But please tell me what you think! I'm not much of an expert in this field.

Your viedo card isn't supported. You need an X1*** series or a 6600 or better.

I don't understand how that would cause glitches, unless they have different collisions for models, and all together different cut scenes depending on display settings.

which still doesn't make sense :|

The card doesn't support SM3.0. The X1*** series and the 6600 and above do.

I had the exact same issue as you did, friend. No cursor when I luanched the demo and the same graphical glitches. Another person encountered the error before so yes, I do believe it is 100% the video card. Which is a bit upsetting, considering I only purchased mine less than a year ago. The issue however, is your Vertex and Pixel Shader version. I have both 2.0 of each, but sadly, Bioshock will only run for cards with version 3.0.

The only thing preventing me from playing this game is the vertex and pixel shading version, as System Requirements Lab tells me so.

    Vertex Shader Ver.: Required - 3.0 , You have - 2.0
    Pixel Shader Ver.: Required - 3.0 , You have - 2.0

    (Select Bioshock from the list)

Solution? Buy a newer video card with version 3.0 of vertex and pixel shading.

I was playing the thing not too long ago. Works for me... well I wanted it to work for 1440X900 but didn't work out well. Then I left it what was recommended and it worked until I was about to get inside rapture D:

Lol I got right up near the lighthouse and nearly the same thing happened. Except when it crashed my desktop shrank to a 480x640 and my colors went down to like 8 or 16bit. I had to restart but after that everything was fine. I haven't tried playing it since that but I'm going to soon.

Man, your lucky to even run Bioshock. Steam wouldn't even start it up. It would tell me to install this C++ application then it will be an error while installing it. Then it cancels and if I try to launch the game, it would give me the "This game is currently unavailble" shit.

Yeah. It did that C++ shit for me the first time I tried running it. Any who, I just tried again and when the video finished and I saw rapture it crashed after like 10 seconds. I was like OOOO!!! /crash Atleast the crash wasn't to drastic this time. Just a normal crash, no restart needed or anything.
