EA's Origin service

That's right. Oldie but a goodie, and it's free, so why not? This isn't an official offer and the game itself isn't supported at all. I surmise due to the fact that the official MP service (Gamespy) went belly up. Despite the official MP server shutdown there are multiple options people can turn to for MP with this game, from "ReviveBF2" to "BF2Hub" to the player match making service "GameRanger." If you have friends to play with you can always connect via IP over the net or use virtual LAN (or throw an actual LAN PARTY, yeah baby). I personally have logged most of my hours in Singleplayer, yes that's not a typo I really did type Singleplayer. Co-op is also a great way to play with friends against (or with) hordes of bot AI, especially useful for filling private games with friends. When playing Singleplayer or Co-op it also opens up the options of using full modifications that are available at websites like mod database, as well as the many custom weapons/skins/sounds/maps/etc available here at gamebanana that users can install for further custom coolness (note if you want to play with modified content with friends, **everyone** has to have the same files installed in order to play together). So enough with the pitch, how does one get the game for free? There are reports from multiple sources that if one has EA's Origin service installed, and you inquire about getting Battlefield 2 from them, they just **give it to you.** Since the game is essentially from the company's perspective abandonware at this point, it's best use is to encourage users to use their Origin platform by offering it for free. So if anyone out there is interested in having a moddable open world FPS vehicle based wargame for free that can be played solo or with friends that features a ridiculous amount of user made content. There you go. :) God bless America.

Just saying here, but wouldn't it be easier for them to just make it available on their store pages again as a free to play title with a secondary notice about the defunct online services instead of having people go through a bunch of hassle with asking about the game and most likely needing to wait?
Not as serious as you'd think.

I mentioned it elsewhere as secondhand information, and a fellow after reading my comment tried it and reported back within 6 hours that Origin gave him his copy of Battlefield 2.

Same. I got it day 1 back in 2005 (10 year anniversary two days ago on June 21st). :) All my games are on disc as my internet is not the best (hence my heavy reliance on Singleplayer). It wasn't till about 2010 that I got internet good enough to play online, but my provider limits me to 10 gigs so I can't afford to download games. Hard copies only.

Regardless, I still love playing BF2. Why? Because thanks to mods & user made DLC this game never gets old. :P

People talk shit about EA. They just give you free shit. I got a copy of Plants vs Zombies GOTY for free. And don't forget the free open alpha for Battlefield Hardline.

If you are asking about BF2? No it's not a demo, **it is the full game**. No time limit, just go install Origin and ask Origin support about how to obtain the game BF2.

I was chatting about this elsewhere and one fellow told me he also got BF2142 the same way.

I would recommend just asking for one though, at least do not ask for multiple games at once. XD

Thanks, anyway as I looked for the Origin support on Origin it wasn't provided{correct me if Im wrong}. I already have the Origin account. So I tried EA.com the one with an online chat and the guy told me wondering why theyre arent giving any digital copy of the BF2 game but instead gave me a link for BF4 hardline Free{gametime]. After a few chat then sent me a 15% discount code for BF4 hardline. Well, BF 2142 would be nice tho...atleast it would be free and never played that before.

    > So I tried EA.com

I don't think EA.com is the same as Origin. Affiliated yes but different. I suppose if you go through the correct channels this works, but then it may be up to the support person you speak with. Don't go in asking for a free game, everyone who received it simply showed interest in obtaining BF2.

Anyways here are some conversations I've had/seen that caused me to start this topic...

    Steam forums:
    > contact the origin guys and ask if its purchasable, it isnt so they litterally just add the game into your origin account. ive just done it, pretty happy now :p

    In PM chain at Moddb

    me:
    > I heard someone contacted Origin about BF2 and they gave them the game for free just like that. Worth a try for an extra backup copy.

    Next poster:
    > I can confirm that as I got bf2 for Origin just now that way

At another forum when I mentioned all the above:
    > I've got BF2142 in similar way on origin

    *UPDATE*

Additional information from users leads me to believe that you must be a Battlefield Veteran in order to get free copies of the old titles.

Meaning, you have to own a copy of a newer Battlefield title on Origin in order for them to be inclined to give you a free copy of BF2.
