I've had this idea for a contest for quite some time now, but have never gotten around to doing it. I'm hoping to get a lot of entrants, so anyone of any skill level, feel free to enter. There's lots of prizes for everyone!

Contest Purpose

The purpose or goal of this contest is to create a full desktop wallpaper by combining four quadrants of equal size together into one wallpaper.

Contest Details

• Create 1/4 (one-fourth) of a desktop wallaper image.
• The entire wallpaper is to be 1920 x 1200 pixels.
• Each entry must be 960 x 600 pixels.
• The background of the wallpaper must be DARK; the foreground can be any colors that blend well.
• It does not need to be solid BLACK, but relatively dark.
• Use of lighter colors is permitted, but try to make sure that when merged together with the 3 other pieces it will blend well.
• Please display your entry as a PNG or BMP image. NO JPG or GIF

I'm not looking for any particular style here. I want the finished product to contain different styles of art, so I don't want to define one thing. I do like abstract art, image manipulations, and typography, but feel free to explore any style you want. If it looks really nice, all the better.

But there are a few things I do NOT want:

• NO over-grungey work. If it's so noisy and messy that nothing is distinguishable, I don't want it.
• NO excessive use of bright or vivid colors, including white, as it will clash with the rest of the wallpaper. I do very much like color, as well as grayscale, I just don't want it to be like a giant flashing rainbow.

Be creative, imaginative, follow the guidelines, and you'll have a good chance of winning some points.

When the contest is over, I will compile the full wallpaper myself and post it here. Anyone who wishes to use it will be able to request a different size. This is the reason why I am alloting for such a large final image size (1920x1200).
