Posted by Teh Snake I understand and share your love for weapons producing. But through years of gun modelling,I realized, that I've been wasting both time and working enthusiasm. Nowdays - I cant make myself finish anything I've started, and cant move on to characters nor enviroment properly. Lazyness. A feeling that you've had enough modelling in your life already. And I regret it now. Regret that I chose to keep sharping weapon making skills, rather moving to something difficult and more interesting.

You've got hell of a potential. Dont waste it and dont repeat my mistakes.

Yeah it's easy to get burned out repeating the same stuff. Do something fresh like try teaching or some small requests, it's good to build up momentum for larger projects. It is a real waste of your refined skills, if it is only laziness and a lack of passion stopping you from creating things.

Don't you have any game/dream ideas that you want to see realized? If you start something and keep working at it, people will volunteer - especially with your great art as a bait.

Or alternatively take up programming, enjoy all it's headaches, and use gun modelling as a form of escapism!

Posted by Teh Snake Stop wasting your time on weapon models. Either try vehicles,or move on to characters. Im sure you're not as interested in guns as before.

Thank you for the advice! A well rounded portfolio is much more successful, and I can understand the good intentions behind your words.

But I want to make every gun to the highest quality I can; I am that obsessed. Modeling guns is a vice and guilty pleasure; I know it's not a smart use of time or a realistic goal, but I'm addicted.

    • I start vehicles, but always get distracted.
    • I cannot compete against dedicated character artists, and don't plan on trying.
    • I would love to do environments, but I can't tear myself away leaving so much that I still want to do.

I'm still running into problems with normal maps and texturing, which can be practiced via guns - but only if I can pause making more guns, and actually focus on my skills that really need improving.

    Make all the things.
