1st Place! High Altitude

“ This was not from a game this was A game! Or well more a portal mod with modifications to the cube. I personally loved how they created this with a very interesting way of integrating the High Altitude theme! There aren't that many test chambers but sure were fun all by all, especially with the slight story attached to it! All by all a very well themed mod/map for this contest! ”

Shoot upward to the Aperture Air Testing Facility

UPDATE 1.0.1 - Fixes missing material and dodgy reset button Portal: Skyline. A single-map (sort of) modification for the original Portal set in the Aperture Air Testing Facility. Described as "Portal meets Bioshock Infinite" by people who've seen it during development, this is a series of test chambers teaching the player in the use of the Aperture Energy Storage Cube and clever re-use of portals to gain momentum in small spaces. Contains custom textures, particles, sounds, soundscapes, dialogue, and control features (such as a Portal 2 style zoom feature!). Some chamber layouts are taken from the unreleased and upcoming Portal: Outside Influence. This is the closest you'll ever get to a demo for it (even if the plot has nothing to do with OI). (If you need to judge a specific map, SKYLINE.BSP is the one with all the content in. The others are a background and a credits map, so nothing particularly special.)

    Thanks very much! The mod will be a long way off, as I'm reworking much of it based on criticisms from this contest, but I'm hoping it'll be done eventually.

    I'm also gonna re-use this style for the advanced maps, because it was fun working in a more abstract form for a while.

    Yea, it is. Don't you worry, I already finished the mod. I'm writing a report now and hopefully they'll release the results soon ;)
    (Great work brw on this mod, I just loved it from start till end!)

    At the test with the 3 turrets, I do not receive the cube when pressing the button. I'm unable to finish the test. Is this normal?

    Nvm got it but you have to be lucky for the turret to fall back throught it, I had to try 5 times to finally have it fall back xD

    I'll be releasing a patch to the map to address this issue with the reset switch at some point. I've also seen someone have trouble with knocking over the turrets, to which I will say only a cryptic quote from The Hitchhikers Guide - "Remember that the force of gravity can go up as well as down"

    I've also just discovered that once the Energy Cube is in the receiver in the third test, the reset switch is disabled. Annoyingly, this can make the test unwinnable. If you find yourself in this state, the game should have kept the autosave from the start of the test, so you don't have to start from the beginning of the map. I don't quite know why I set it up to do that, but sometime in the last 36 hours I made a change that both moved the location of the material (in my previous comment), and removed a bunch of outputs from the reset switch (as well as locking it. I haven't a clue why I did that).

    Just been informed that it's missing a single VMT file. Here's a patch, just stick it in your SourceMods folder and tell it to overwrite anything. I knew something like this would happen, but I thought I'd checked them all >.> Totally understand if this can't be included in any judging or anything (but the texture is in the game, it's just missing it's material file!)
