In one of my attempts to improve the rating panel.
Create a more personal rating panel.

By using your own words I feel that you really express what you feel, And generally give a more accurate rating (Now that I'm thinking, it can be a good unlockable)

what you think?

Update.
CS-Central had a similar option, I like it more like it was there, Can restore it ...

important note

This system should not replace the rating but an "examplery post"
This should only serve as a guide, There are people who think that 5 is bad, and another thinks that 7 is bad, This should serve as "abbreviation"

People coming to the website might get confused when every rating they run across is different now that I think about it.

This aspect might be best if they kept every ones the same to avoid confusion. Even if they did a few preset ones you could switch with it might bring about some confusion to people perhaps.

They could possibly make it so that only the person can see it if they set it to it, while others can do the same. Keeping the default setting to what it is now.

Say I set it to how the image has it, to me that's what I'll see on every ones ratings, but to everyone else, they'll still see it as the default unless they too change it. This way it's more of a customizable preference for each individual person.

I can't speak for anyone else, but just for the record I only ever meant to imply changing the ratings a single user can place, not the final sum

A 1-10 scale is useful when looking at the average score of, say, 8 people's ratings. But within the scale of a single person's opinion, that level of precision is unnecessary and often misrepresented

How do you differentiate between a submission you rate 8 or 9? How about 7 or 8? 2 or 3?

The increments are too small and they end up used arbitrarily or not at all, which defeats their purpose.
I understand you were only trying to say that.

When you say it that way, it's true. I believe one's own criteria is to be used when picking between say, 7 or 8. Not saying the same with 9 and 10 because 10 would basically be used for flawless submissions, or in other cases, ones that you just really like.

I'd say the way one should use this system is clear, but you're right on saying it's used too arbitrarily to even appear true. I still wonder how the like/dislike system would make up for this, though.

Every number from 1 to 10 is important.
Give me a good reason to keep too many numbers
Easier to differentiate the different levels of quality between submissions; you are talking on "I like this or I don't like this" levels, while I'm talking about a rating based on the technical skill of a submission. People can misuse anything, but it's not the system itself's fault that happens. I'm speaking as a critic here, if it needs to be made clear.

Furthermore, you haven't provided reasons as to why your customizable phrases should be added either; these "more personal words" could be very well made into a post which only takes you 2 extra seconds to make.

Not only that, but you haven't exactly substantiated your claim where you say this current rating system is broken. Like I said, the system itself is not at fault for the way people use it; for example, with ZPhugeFan's post below, it's not at fault for people getting influenced by their feelings too much when rating.

To me, it simply looks as though you just want the like/dislike system over the 1-to-10 one. Wouldn't it be easier to just state it that way instead?

    (haven't read the whole thread)

Just replace 1-10 with like and dislike. That's how most people use current system, anyway. Instant 9-10 for anything they got excited by and 1-3 for anything mediocre and below.

In a system where people are held accountable for their ratings, it would be. But not here.

I agree with Thunderkeil here. The current system doesn't work properly. For example I only ever use 8s 9s and 10s when I rate as I feel anything below that implies that the submission is bad and if it's a 5 or below- utter garbage! And if I can't give a good rating I just pass it, cause I don't want to be rude.
    Basically it's like this:
    10 - great work/really nice
    9 - nice, but not exactly a 10
8 - very good, but could use improvements
    7 - average at best
6 - well if you can say anything nice... you get where i'm going with this.
    5 - don't bother in the future

And I'm totally not the only one that sees the rating system this way, I'm sure.
We certainly don't need that many numbers since we never gonna use them. Maybe a 1-5 system would be better?
I agree, the rating by 10 numbers Is broken long ago, not only in GB but in many sites that use it.

That's why I ask for the system I like and I do deslike.
I read somewhere that youtube had problems with the system of ratings with stars and change it for that is more effective (likes and deslikes)
I thought it could be a solution to the ratings system since it eliminates many variables

Although to be honest to have around 5 numbers could work

Just out of curiosity, what do you think of this rating system? Very broken?
No, it's actually quite good. For its platform, anyway. It's effectively the same as [as previously mentioned] only rating 1s and 10s.

It's a very very clear system- black and white, no grey areas so you have to pick one. The more grey options you add, the more difficult it becomes to give clear meaning to the assigned value.

I believe 4 to be the best compromise because it combines the clarity of a small amount of choices, with the ability to still express you think something could or should be improved

3 options is a bad system because rating something neutrally has absolutely no value to it
