Hammer editor lagging

Everytime i open up hammer in source SDK, it starts to get a framerate of about 5 FPS after about 15 sec of work.

Anyone know how to fix it?

i know its not my pc specs causing the lag, but since people will probably ask anyway, here are the specs:

Windows XP Nvidia 9600GT 2GB Ram AMD Athlon 4800+ Dual-Core

    Go to tools - options, and within the 3D view area change your max distance to half of what it is currently along with the prop_render distance.

    That should help.
