Adding cover properly?

For those who suck at it

By dubesinhower 3 years ago

I suck at adding cover to my maps. i have a nice layout now, but it's too open. i want to add crates, but i don't know how to add them without just looking like stupid pyramids of crates everywhere. anyone have any hints or possibly a tut?

it's a gungame map. the ramps are the same on both sides, and they both open up down below into a big open room. the terrorist floating in the middle is on a big player clip, so you can walk across the middle without falling through. the stack of boxes can be moved upon request. i would like to stay with dev texture boxes if possible, but i can go with some suggestions. thanks everyone!

You could add small buildings and surround them with gates with arches and stuff still keeping true to that Dev theme. Have a look around your real life room and see how Items are stacked and placed and try get inspiration from that. Don't just place boxes everywhere as it will make the map look budget. In a map like the one you created I would steer clear of triangles and odd shapes.

Your map is looking good by the way. Keep up the good work.

Would you say that walls that have holes at random areas is too cliche?

Think of it like this: Is it going to be useful? will it actually be noticed? If you mean like windows then no that would probably work best. One sec. Ill draw what I mean

OK cool. This is a real bad drawing but you should be able to see where I'm getting at. If its a gun game map then think like this... Where would be a good spot for a sniper, where would be a good spot for a m4a1 where would be a good spot for knifing etc.. and how can I make it so they all see each other and how can they hide from each other.
