Lightning Questions

By Bloodhunter4rc 4 years ago

Currently working on a deathrun map, and have 2 questions.

  1. If i put spikes below the floor and let them come up , they will be all dark , i know that i can put lights there but however i dont want the floor to look messed up , is there no better way ? Can i use a dynamic light on top for it to look fine ?

  2. When using lights with less brightness than 100~ playermodels turn out to be way to dark , and dont fit the lightning is there some way to fix this ? I tried putting cubemaps could not notice much difference , not sure if this will fix that ?

What brush entity are these spikes? func_door or something else, depending on what it is there are at least three ways I can think off to edit that lighting info other than slapping in more lights on their start position.

Hit this button On my post when you answer it as I may not remember the link to this thread etc, got quite a bit on my plate atm in terms of work both here on site and off in my personal stuff.

They are func_movelinear. Really need to fix the general lightning on playermodels, its ugly.

Ouch, only thing you can do with a movelinear is disable receiving shadows, it may stand out still but in the other direction.

If you wanted to change them to func_door/brush etc then there is a key called "Minimum light Level" which you could crank up to brighten it, then just a matter of tweaking it to match the level of light in that area.

But try the disable shadows for now, it may look fine, never know.

If you use a func_door, you can set a min light level in one of the SmartEdit properties.
