Get 2.6 instead, it can make GoldSrc textures.

VTF Plug-in

Allows GIMP to read, edit, and save '.vtf' files, using a layer mask as the alpha channel, or a different layer entirely.

G'Mic

A big set of filters, which function like the 'filter gallery' from Photoshop, with some extra stuff. Also allows you to make your own filters, read here how.

GIMP normalmap plug-in

Allows for normalmap creation, also allows you to look at a 3D object for preview.

DDS plug-in

Allows GIMP to read, edit, and save '.dds' files, using layers as mipmaps.

Allows you to make use of layer styles just like in Photoshop; not all of these are in G'Mic, and even if they were, this is much more accesible. Though it doesn't really function like the way photoshop does it, it can be put in new layers so not all is lost when you mess up.

Not directly, it requires you to make a custom module, it'll look something like this:

It's quite a disaster on your profile template though, it'll break the WYSIWYG editor and it sticks out like sore thumb, so it's just for people who know how to handle the stuff.

All plug-ins now work for Gimp 2.8, or more precise a 2.8 supported version has been released for all plug-ins.
